As with our other children, Jake and Charlie will eventually figure out what I’m spelling, which led me to how many words do dogs know and then cascaded into the realization that thoughts don’t require punctuation of any kind.

A variety of sources say that dogs can understand 100-200 words, depending on the human.

The boys know a ton of words and while the thought of trying to count every word – right this second – was brief – … let me say this … when you treat your “dog kids” like children they begin to take on human traits which means that they start to expect things and boss you around. That’s a lot of words.

You can imagine my surprise when I realized that I have never shared a list of the most common words and commands for dog sitters along the way.  Sorry boys, it’s on the list.

Quit watching the news.
